Mixed Media Background Technique #2

Hi :)))
I am so excited to share a new technique. This is totally inspired by the paint system of tattered angle. You don't have to have the paint system to achieve the look. Use any gilmmer mist and glimmer paint you have, you can create hundreds of different background looks.

NOW, LETS GET STARTED

Step 1: Spray your background paper with A LOT OF water. The main reason I spray my page with water first is because it will allow the glimmer mist to flow around on your page and blend together. Also, if you don't soak your page with water first, you will need to soak it with your glimmer mist. I am cheap...I like to save my mist.

Step 2: Use two glimmer mist of your choice and spray the page. Again, the water we sprayed in step 1 will allow the mist to blend.

Step 3: Add a glimmer paint of your choice to the WET page. Use a brush and just draw whatever patter you like. I love to make them look "organic". Add the paint to the WET page will allow the paint to diffuse and give it a more natural look.

Step 4: Add another glimmer paint to your WET page. I like to draw some of the second glimmer paint next to the where I draw with the first paint. Again, I love to make them look organic.

FINISHED!
This is how it looks like. All the paints diffused to each other, I just love how it looks.
Hope you like it

Homemade Thin Glimmer Glaze HOW TO

Step 1: First choose a small jar

Step 2: Fill the jar to 1/4 full with your favorite acrylic paint

Step 3: Bring out your iridescent medium (Trust me, this stuff rocks. Yes it is 9 dollars, but it totally worth it. It has 6.78 fluid oz, which will literally never run out. You can turn any paint into glimmer/ metal color/pearl paint using this)

Step 4: Now it comes to the messy part. Add the iridescent medium and stir to mix. The paint and iridescent medium mixture should approx. at the 1/3 line (1/3 full)

Step 5: Add glazing medium (or gel medium, or anything like that) to the 1/2 or 2/3 line. We are going to add water later, So if you want a slightly thicker glaze, add to the 2/3 line.

Step 6: This step is optional since the paint is already very shimmering. But, I like my paint extremely shimmering, so I added some mica powder. Add as much as you want.

Step 7: Fill the jar with water. Like I mentioned in the title of this post, it is a thin glaze, meaning it is quite watery. The main reason I made it watery is so that it can be blended easily on your project. But don't worry, it will still have a good color pay off as you can see in the picture here (See how shimmering it is? lol)

Hope you will give it a try.

Mixed Media Background Technique #1

Recently, I haven been playing around different mixed media techniques and I have found some very cool techniques. Here is a very simple and fun technique I want to share with you guys.

What you need:
--> Stamps you like
--> Archival ink (or any ink that is water proof)
--> Tissue paper
--> Mod podge
--> Glimmer mist of your favorite color
(--> The wire mesh is just what I add to make the tag not so boring...)

This is how I did this:
I glimmer misted the whole tag with the colors I like, wait for it to dry.
Then I stamped all over the tag (I found some very cool stamps in Michaels clearance stamp bin).
Cover the whole tap using tissue paper of your choice. I used tim holtz's tissue paper here.
Before applying the tissue paper, make sure that you have applied a lot mod podge on the tag, so that you can wrinkle the tissue paper the way you like and move it around.
(If you want to, like I did, before the mod podge is fully dried, rip out some of the tissue paper)
Now let's GLIMMER MIST!
Use your favorite glimmer mist and just do what you want :)))
When the tissue paper is dried, you will notice the stamp image coming through and give it a very settle, grounge background look.

Altered Tin Box

Altered tin box.
The whole box was covered with foil tape. The foil tape used to cover the top of the box was embossed. For the sides of the box, first I put some mesh tape on there and cover the sides of box with foil tape. I made the pink glaze (homemade glaze, yay!)  used on this box and the teal color is from gelato.
I had so much fun making this, and hope you like it :)))

Altered Easel

I absolutely love the "Secret Garden" paper from graphic 45. So I decided to do something with it. I used two of my little easel and some craft sticks for this project. Hope you like it :))
